Playing as a Demon

This won’t take long. I go to this forum called Vindicta. The only thing that breathes life into it nowadays would be pictures of cute asian girls and glasses-girls doing asian poses, that and Roleplaying.

So before you think that roleplaying is some kinky forum shit that we do, for the sake of discussion I’ll describe what it is when you put it in the context of a forum activity.

An RP is a long-forgotten game of “continue the story above you.” I say long-forgotten because people are not as enthusiastic in Roleplaying like before. Back in the day, people really took this seriously and almost all forums have at least several RPs going for them, each take up an incredible amount of space and the recipient of creativity overload. My first RP I think was in an invisionfree forum and I was playing the younger sister of a powerful mage. I remember how much fun it was to ride on someone else’s plot and make others look naturally cool.

Roleplaying in forums should not be mistakened with table-top games. Those are completely different and the rules in Roleplaying are much, much simpler. You create a character, buff him up with skills and traits (depending on the nature of your RP) describe his appearance, put up a brief history to explain his personality and then you push that character in the grand scheme of things.

Everyone else has their own character and you will all contribute to one single plot. You will make your character interact with another player’s character and so on and so forth until you have completed the whole story and the RP will be over.

Who decides it’s over? Who makes the rules? Who makes the plot twists and turns and conflict?

The interesting part here is that everyone has a hand in altering the story. It’s actually… magical, how it all happens. In a mysterious and amusing way, everybody and everything will fall into place and develop into an interesting story in the end.

Having said that, I’m currently involved in an RP with friends called, “Heaven and Heck.” In this RP, we play as demons in the great epic battle of good (angels) versus evil (demons). Throughout the RP, we would be trying to tempt humans in order to build the bigger army (as compared to the other side) when Armageddon comes. My character is Lacrimosa, a demon taking the form of a 5-year old girl. She specializes in despair and makes humans lose faith and hope in The Big Man Up There. Usually, things get out of hand and they end up killing themselves, but that’s just a plus.
